It’s that time of the year when everything turns to summer green music!
The plants are soaking up that sunshine, crops are being tested by some extreme weather, and independent cannabis growers are getting ready to battle the market again.

In the spirit of the season, we have compiled a playlist of a few songs you might want to add to your Spotify that we call Summer Green Music. These songs should put the power in your pipe, or in your pocket power walk.

You might notice a theme across some of these songs.

Summer Green Music

Ben Harper-Burn One Down

Take a trip back to 1995 with us, when the world truly was a better place.
Ben Harper releases his ‘Fight For Your Mind’ album and truly blesses us with a fantastic anthem on the power of pro-marijuana.
It might be the sixth track on the album, but it’s number one on many a cannabis lovers list.

Legalize It-Pete Tosh

Pete Tosh has been a pusher for cannabis legalization since the 1970s’, when he highlighted his struggles with Jamaican police over his medical need for cannabis.
Recorded in Jamaica with fellow other Wailers members, this song was immediately banned by Jamaican police for been too incendiary.
‘Legalize It’ became a rallying cry anthem for many, and has been heard at festivals, forums and protests.

Pass the Kouchie-Mighty Diamonds

What could be cuter than kids singing about weed. Or was it weed? What the heck is a ‘Dutchie’ anyway? Oh, wait, that’s the 1982 cover version by Jamaican-Brit band musical youth.

Pass the Kouchie was a blazing 1981 song, that took from a 1968 version by Leroy Scribbles.
The song glorified the use of marijuana, and instantly pissed of the Jamaican government who must have been getting some international heat for all the ganja songs.

Make sure you play this one loud when you see the police about to pull you over.

Reefer Man

‘Have you Ever Met that Funny Reefer Man’ was a classic hit by Cab Calloway in 1932, only 5 years before cannabis was made illegal.

It’s one of the first ever pop culture references to a pot-smoker, and of course became banned due to offending somebody silly somewhere.

Still a classic to listen to, and you can see a liver performance of it here.

Hits from the Bong-Cypress Hill

Any true 90s’ kid knows that ‘Black Sunday’ by Cypress Hill was one of the sickest albums to ever hit a late night CD player.

From the shivering pulse beats of ‘Insane in the Membrane’ to the rowdy ran jam of ‘Lick a Shot’, but it was one track that stole the thunder for many true weed heads in beanie hats at the time.

‘Hits from the Bong’ featured not only the gurgling liquid of an actual bong to start the track, but provided a template for many weed nerds to follow along to the song in bong. Brilliant.
Let’s see you Tik Tok nerd-burglars due that.

Marijuana Tree-Johnny Osbourne

The 1990s’ kept giving, with this simple Jamaican beat by Johnny Osbourne called ‘Marijuana Tree’, which details the troubles and trials of a marijuana tree farmer.

From worrying about his tree, to troubles with the gardener, nothing seems to go right for Johnny.

Luckily this funny little song will put a smile on ever grower.

Roll Me Up & Smoke Me When I Die-Willie Nelson

Can’t have a playlist without the great Willie Nelson! This live version from 2013 will surely put a tear, or leave your eyes red somehow.

When Willie Nelson dies it will be an international stoner holiday. Mark our words!

That’s it for this little sprout of some Summer Green Music. Watch out for some new podcasts coming out soon!
